    At Aerojet Rocketdyne, our people further the exploration of space and help keep America safe! We develop and manufacture rocket engines in Redmond, Washington that are used on a variety of spacecraft. This intern opportunity for summer 2019 will support either our bipropellant or monopropellant technology groups in the successful planning, design, development and qualification of propulsion systems for spacecraft and launch vehicle applications.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    Under supervision, the Intern will:

     

    70% - Participate in trade studies, program tasks relating to production thrusters and/or support technology development efforts. Tasks will likely involve data collection, entry level performance analysis, hardware tracking, and test monitoring.

     

    20% - Assist project engineers with presentations and submittals to both external customers and internal staff.

     

    10% - Coordinate activities with other internal departments such as engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test.

    Requirements

    Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related science/discipline.

     

    US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

    Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

    • Coursework and knowledge in the following areas are preferred: thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, materials, combustion and/or rocket engine performance analysis.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word.
    • Prefer experience with MatLab, Simulink, MS PowerPoint and/or Visio.
    • Experience with development hardware, mechanical assembly and/or test preferred.
    • DOORS or systems requirements software experience is desirable.
    • Must have ability/experience working in a team environment and excellent written and verbal skills.

     

    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
