  • Overview

    This is a summer 2019 intern position that supports the Engineering Mechanical Design Department in our West Palm Beach, Florida facility. After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry-level engineering tasks on rocket propulsion projects. The intern will support senior engineering staff and gain experience and familiarization with Aerojet Rocketdyne projects. The candidate must be able to operate effectively in a team environment. This internship position will start approximately June 2019.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    Perform various mechanical engineering duties for the Mechanical Design and CAD Modeling technical staff.


    70% - Assist with the development of engineering designs that are used on solid rocket motor and liquid rocket engine applications. Typical tasks may include conceptual design support, part selection research, computer aided design (CAD) and technical presentation support. Potential for hands-on experience with engineering hardware integration and test exposure.


    20% - Become familiar with and utilize computer aided design software tools used to create 3D models. Prepare engineering drawings and apply dimensional tolerancing. Perform basic engineering calculations to support concepts and preliminary designs.


    10% - Generate databases used for data reduction, trend analysis and metrics collection. Provide general support such as PowerPoint presentations and technical report generation.


    Candidates must be currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. degree program in Mechanical Engineering (or similar major) and have completed their junior year of study. Hands-on mechanical experience highly desired. Experience with CAD software tools is a plus. Solid academic track record and demonstrated teamwork experience required.


    US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
