    We are seeking an Associate Engineer, Materials and Processes for our Huntsville, AL office.

     

    In this entry-level role, applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and energetic substances, compositions, and materials for use in exploratory research, and product development that leads to production. Provides expertise in the areas of non-energetic and energetic materials and properties, material chemical and structural characterization testing, modeling and performance. Performs first order analysis of transient loads and structural response, subsystem and system integration, and engineering consultation. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition. Designs and scales up manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment, and tests manufactured products to ensure requirements and quality are met.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    25% - Working with direct supervision from a more senior M&P engineer, mentor or manager, obtains guidance on reviewing drawings and requirements and communicates that to design teams and integrated product teams.

    25% - Participates as a team member in defining M&P development plans, trade studies, documents/presents plans and supports technical/design review activities.

    20% - Performs tests and analysis based on engineering fundamentals and conducts test plans to determine adequacy of materials and processes used in design.

    20% - Works with the manufacturing team to solve problems related to the processing of composite materials using root cause analysis techniques.

    10% - Requires regular, consistent interfacing and consulting with peers, customers, and suppliers with demonstrated independent technical and interpersonal relationship skills required to achieve the program technical goals.

    Requirements

    Requires a B.S. degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or other field related to materials.

    Additional Requirements:

    1. Knowledge of advanced composite materials and applications.
    2. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate in a team environment.

    US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
