  • Overview

    This position is an entry-level design engineer position in the Avionics Integration and Test Engineering group in our Chatsworth, CA location. In this role, you will have an opportunity to support the Advance Electric Propulsion System (AEPS), NextSTEP and Dream Chaser programs.  Travel may be required, to other Aerojet Rocketdyne facilities, key partners and to the customer.


    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    Working under direct supervision:


    70% - Perform assigned engineering tasks which support the design and development of electronics hardware, working closely with electrical circuit designers, electrical systems, manufacturing, thermal and stress analysts.

    • Electro-mechanical packaging design consisting of power processing box designs integrating Printed Wiring and Harness assemblies.
    • Temperature, pressure, speed, vibration and/or position sensor electro-mechanical design including trade studies and supplier evaluation.
    • Coordination of activities including hardware fabrication support with other internal organizations such as engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test.
    • Support Special Test Equipment designs and design of Hardware test fixtures.

    25% - Perform instrumentation data analysis as required in support of rocket engine hot-fire testing and/or component testing.


    5% - Participate in engineering process training and other professional development activities. May be called upon to make presentations with review by senior engineers.  


    Requires a Bachelor's  or Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similiar engineering discipline).


    US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communications skills, be proficient in the use of PC, internet, intranet and electronic office applications.
    • Must be adept at taking direction, work well with teams and be customer focused.
    • Demonstrated ability to perform on task and follow up on assignments. Must be able to handle multiple projects at the same time and have basic project management skills.
    • Demonstrate oral, written and presentation skills is a requirement.
    • Safe work practices, proper ethics and attention to detail are required. Candidate must work with moderate guidance on projects with short-term focus. This position requires a positive attitude and personal interaction with various team members and customers.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with CAD software tools is a plus.
    • Electrical Engineering major preferred.
    • Experience working in an electronics laboratory facility.
    • Exposure to software development tools and languages.
    • Knowledge of electronic packaging design for space applications, with Aerospace and/or military experience, with an emphasis on Printed Wiring Board design for power electronics.
    • Knowledge of electronic packaging design for space applications is desirable.
    • Proficiency in the use of Windchill and CREO is  a plus.


    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:   

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
