    At Aerojet Rocketdyne, our people further the exploration of space and help keep America safe! We develop and manufacture rocket engines in Redmond, Washington that are used on a variety of spacecraft. For the Chemical Propulsion Technology Group, the summer 2019 intern will support engineering teams in the successful planning, design, development and qualification of chemical propulsion thrusters and systems for spacecraft applications.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    The Intern will support chemical propulsion system programs, including:

     

    70% - Participating in program tasks relating to production hardware and/or support of technology development efforts. Tasks will vary depending upon the intern’s skill set and will likely involve data collection, entry-level performance analysis, software tool development, trade studies, fabrication support, and test monitoring.

     

    20% - Assisting project engineers with presentations and submittals to both external customers and internal staff.

     

    10% - Coordinating activities with other internal departments such as engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality and test.

    Requirements

    Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related science/discipline.

     

    US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

    Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

    • Coursework and knowledge in the following areas are preferred: thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, materials, propulsion, electrical circuits, plasma physics, and/or rocket engine performance analysis.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
    • Prefer experience with MatLab, Simulink, Visio, engineering analysis software packages and/or CAD packages.
    • Experience with development hardware, mechanical assembly, and/or test is a plus.
    • DOORS or systems requirements software experience is desirable.
    • Must have experience working in a team environment and excellent written and verbal skills.

     

    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
