Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world recognized leader in space and missile propulsion. We design and manufacture liquid, solid, and hypersonic propulsion systems.
Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a talented and highly motivated candidate for an Intern, Structures & Dynamics opportunity at our West Palm Beach, FL location for the summer of 2019.
Under close supervision, the intern will perform structural or structural dynamics analysis of propulsion systems and components under the direction of senior structural analysis engineer. Responsibilities will include:
80% - Setup and operation of various finite element based structural analysis simulations to determine the deflections, stresses and strains in propulsion system components. The student will be exposed to various classical hand calculations and experimental methods to help calibrate and validate the finite element structural response predictions.
20% - Support special projects and requests as required, provide timely response to customers, peers and management with summary and supporting details as needed, present analysis results to both internal and external customers, and identify process improvement opportunities.
Students must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related science/discipline. (Graduate students are preferred). Strong academic track record required.
Candidate should have coursework in Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Material Science, and Thermodynamics. Coursework in Finite Element Methods preferred. Candidate must work well in teams, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be results-oriented with good problem solving skills and have the ability to take ownership of tasks.
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
