This internship opportunity supports the Program Management office on special projects at the Redmond, WA location.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

50% - Participate in planning and execution of electric propulsion production programs and modular propulsion systems technology development efforts. Activities may involve engineering analyses, risk assessments, schedule and budget development and tracking, performance analysis, manufacturing support, and test support.

 

40% - Coordinate activities with other internal departments including engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test.

 

10% - Assist program manager with presentations and submittals to both external customers and internal staff.

Requirements

Students must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a science or engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Materials  Engineering), and completed their junior year of study.

 

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of propulsion systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, additive manufacturing, and/or material science. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office. Proficiency in CAD is a preferred skill. Experience with development hardware, mechanical assembly and/or test preferred.  Experience working in a lean design and production environment preferred.  The candidate must demonstrate experience with effective communication and collaboration in a team environment.

 

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three years of coursework and knowledge in the following areas are preferred: thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, materials, electrical circuits, plasma physics, and/or rocket engine performance analysis
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Prefer experience with MatLab, Simulink, Visio, engineering analysis software packages and/or CAD packages
  • Experience with development hardware, mechanical assembly, and/or test is a plus
  • Experience developing cost estimates and managing budgets preferred
  • Must have experience working in a team environment and excellent written and verbal skills

 

US Citizenship required.  Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

 

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.  May require the ability to travel by air or auto.  May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.   These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
