We are currently seeking an Associate Materials & Processes Engineer to join our team in Redmond, WA. This is an entry-level position for a recent college graduate.


This position will work in the Chemistry lab and will be responsible for providing materials-related/Process - related testing support to product teams, processing development support, limited failure analysis and manufacturing process development support, as well as interface with suppliers and customers to resolve technical problems relating to material testing.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Under direct supervision and following established policies, performs professional chemist assignments requiring full use and application of standard chemical principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy. Erroneous decisions or recommendations, or failure to get results might cause delays in project schedules and result in the allocation of more resources. Also, may result in penalties associated with violation of or failure to comply with applicable environmental regulations. Contacts are primarily intra-organizational. May be involved in interfacing with inter-organizational and outside customer contacts, but contacts would be infrequent and on routine matters.


60% - Performs analysis of propellants and process chemicals. Fabricates catalyst materials. Processes metallic components (cleaning, passivation, electroplating). Develops new methods or processes which require a comprehensive knowledge of chemistry and laboratory techniques. Compiles and evaluates test results. Prepares reports to document findings and recommendations as to processes, materials and projects directions.


40% - Reviews and approves related inputs such as tests and experiments conducted by other laboratory personnel. Coordinates with personnel in other disciplines to integrate findings and recommendations. Other duties as assigned.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or Physics (or other appropriate discipline) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


US Citizenship required.  Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Additional Requirements:

  • Safe manipulation of hazardous materials, chemical analysis, sample preparation, titration and precision weighing expected.
  • Understanding and use of process and analytical equipment that is/are pertinent to the appropriate application of skills.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of and some experience in use of chemical laboratory process and test equipment, specialized analytical equipment, and various computer systems is a plus.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.   May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
