The Project Engineering Director leads an organization responsible for providing cross-functional technical coordination, system integration, and engineering project management expertise to all programs and business sectors across the Aerojet Rocketdyne enterprise. The Project Engineering Director is a member of the Engineering Senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering. They will closely collaborate with the Space and Defense Business Unit and Advanced Programs Chief Engineers to ensure effective support of all work in the Chief Engineer's respective portfolios.
This Director supervises four managers and an overall staff of approximately 65 project engineers spread across at least six different sites around the country. The position is responsible for planning, schedule performance, cost performance, staffing, knowledge management, employee development, and continuous improvement of tools and processes throughout the span of the Project Engineering organization.
*The preferred location for this position is at the Aerojet Rocketdyne offices in either Huntsville, AL or Canoga Park, CA. Frequent travel to other Aerojet Rocketdyne and customer sites is expected.
30% - Provide oversight for the execution of Project Engineering work scope across the enterprise. Ensure work is performed with process rigor and a high standard of quality. Proactively intervene, driving recovery plans and implementing corrective/preventative actions as may be required.
20% - Ensure that the supply of Project Engineering resources stays aligned with enterprise demand, and that the resources are deployed to the programs meeting business needs in a timely manner.
15% - Provide strategic leadership for the Project Engineering organization. Set the Vision, identify gaps, and lead the organization to excellence by modeling a commitment to continuous improvement using the Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Operating System (ARBOS).
15% - Collaborate with the Engineering Senior Leadership Team and Program Management Organization in addressing both strategic and tactical maters of concern.
5% - Support new business development through participation in capture teams and the proposal review process.
5% - Provide mentorship, coaching, and other resources necessary to foster employee development within the Project Engineering organization.
5% - Plan the overhead budget requirements for the Project Engineering organization. Track and meet all financial goals.

Requires a Bachelors degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related engineering discipline and at least 14 years of progressive experience in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
