This is a summer 2018 intern position that will support the Engineering Mechanical Design Department. After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry level engineering tasks on rocket propulsion projects. This position will support senior engineering staff and gain experience and familiarization with Aerojet Rocketdyne projects. The candidate must be able to operate effectively in a team environment. This internship position will start approximately May 2018 and will be located at our facility in Huntsville, AL.
The intern will perform various mechanical engineering duties for the Mechanical Design and CAD Modeling technical staff in Solid Motor Propulsion, Controllable Solids, and/or Air-Breathing Propulsion field.
70% - Assist with the development of engineering designs that are used on Solid Rocket Motor, Controllable Solids and/or Air-Breathing Propulsion Applications. Typical tasks may include conceptual design support, part selection research, computer aided design (CAD) and technical presentation support. Potential for hands-on experience with engineering hardware integration and test exposure.
20% - Become familiar with and utilize computer aided design software tools used to create 3D models. Prepare engineering drawings and apply dimensional tolerancing. Perform basic engineering calculations to support concepts and preliminary designs.
10% - Generate databases used for data reduction, trend analysis and metrics collection. Provide general support such as PowerPoint presentations and technical report generation.
Candidate must be currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar major and have completed their sophomore year of study. Hands-on mechanical experience highly desired. Experience with CAD software tools is a plus. Solid academic track record and demonstrated teamwork experience required.
US Citizenship Required. Aerojet Rocketdyne Engineering positions require the employee to have access to premises which are, or require the employee to perform duties that are, subject to national security requirements of the United States under government contracts that impose US Citizenship requirements for such positions. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Position may require the ability to travel by air or auto. Position may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
