Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Materials Engineering Intern for the 2018 summer at our Redmond, WA location. This intern will be supporting rocket propulsion materials and process development. After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry-level engineering assignments under direct supervision of other engineers following established practices and policies.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

70% - Provide materials engineering support for propulsion hardware design, fabrication and test. Assist in the selection of materials for product application, the calculation of design allowables from literature and experimental data, the performance of material properties testing, and the generation of technical reports and presentations to document technical conclusions/findings.

 

30% - Coordinate test activities in the laboratories.

Requirements

Must be enrolled in a BS program in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related major, and completing junior year of study.
  • Current enrollment in a MS program in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering also considered.
  • Candidate must be able to perform statistical analysis of data with Microsoft Excel.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
