Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking an Associate Accounts Receivable Accountant to join our facility in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area). In this entry-level role, you will be part of the team responsible for providing rapid and high-quality financial information.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Using established procedures and working under close supervision:


40% - Prepares project billing for government contracts. Reviews and understands basic contract documents and accounting memos as it relates to billing requirements. Ensures all billings are done accurately and timely with supervision. Works with contract managers to determine the proper monthly billings based on the progress of each contract. Ensures cash receipts are applied accurately and timely.


40% - Provides accurate and timely cash receipts application, as well as excellent customer service to internal and external customer. Monitors customer accounts and identifies liquidations according to Bank statement and remit information. Assists in the preparation of cash forecast, monitor account collection and work closely with Treasury to achieve cash forecast. Monitor accounts receivable aging report and assist Business Management/Contract Administrators in accounts collection.


10% - Prepares and monitors monthly billing schedules. Performs special projects, support external and internal auditors during audits.


10% - Prepares final contract close-out billings and pre-final billings for contracts with cancelling funds. Serves as liaison between Business Management and Contract Management. Ensures compliance with company policies, directives and work procedures including government contract accounting and project billings. Ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, financial analysis and financial reporting is preferred.


Additional Requirements:

  • US Citizenship Only Required. Dual Citizenship does not meet job qualifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, as well as the ability to prioritize to meet critical deadlines and focus on work product quality and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with hands on approach to process improvement and effective problem resolution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Oracle ERP system a plus.
  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) is desirable.



Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
