Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Quality Engineering Intern to join its facility in Canoga Park, California (Los Angeles area) for Fall 2017.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Under close supervision, the intern will support the Quality Engineering Organization through the following:


20% - Reviewing and approving drawings for inspectability.


20% - Identifying and implementing process improvements/advancements.


15% - Supporting risk assessment activity in identifying special characteristics on hardware drawings.


15% - Utilizing Process Variation Management tools to identify and reduce process variation for in-house and supplier critical processes.


20% - Providing Quality procurement support by flowing engineering product definition to Suppliers.


10% - Providing real-time analysis of quality drivers, non-conformances, performance, customer escapes and inefficiencies.


Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's (preferably at Sophomore/Junior level) or Master's degree in a related engineering discipline.

As a Government Contractor, this position requires the employee to have access to premises which are, OR requires the employee to perform duties that are, subject to national security requirements of the United States under government contracts that impose US Citizenship requirements for such positions. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information.


Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communications skills, be proficient in the use of PC, internet, intranet and electronic office applications.
  • Must be adept at taking direction, work well with teams and be customer focused.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform on task and follow up on assignments. Must be able to handle multiple projects at the same time and have basic project management skills.
  • Safe work practices, proper ethics and attention to detail are required. Candidate must work with moderate guidance on projects with short-term focus. This position requires a postive attitude and personal interaction with various team members and customers.


Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
