Our Defense Business Unit (headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama) is a leader in the design, development, test and manufacture of propulsion systems that power much of our nation’s ability to defend itself and its allies, and protect our troops around the world.
This is a summer 2018 intern position that will support the Aero Thermal Fluids Analysis Department. After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry-level engineering tasks on rocket propulsion projects. This position will support senior engineering staff and provide experience and familiarization with Aerojet Rocketdyne projects. The candidate must be able to operate effectively in a team environment. This internship position will start approximately May/June 2018 and will be located at our facility in Huntsville, AL.
Under the direction of a senior analysis engineer, the intern will perform thermal and fluid dynamics analysis of propulsion systems and components. Responsibilities will include:
80% - Set up and operate thermal, combustion and fluid dynamic analysis simulations to determine temperatures, pressures, and heat transfer rates in propulsion system components. Perform basic engineering calculations to support conceptual and preliminary designs. Analyze test data and calibrate analysis models.
20% - Support special projects and requests as required, provide timely response to customers, peers and management with summary and supporting details as needed, and present analysis results to both internal and external customers.
Candidates must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering) and must have completed at least their sophomore year of study. A strong academic track record is required.
