Our Defense Business Unit (headquarted in Huntsville, Alabama) is a leader in the design, development, test and manufacture of propulsion systems that power much of our nation’s ability to defend itself and its allies, and protect our troops around the world.
This is a summer 2018 intern position that will support the Project Engineering Department. After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry-level engineering tasks on rocket propulsion projects. This position will support senior engineering staff and gain experience and familiarization with Aerojet Rocketdyne projects. The candidate must be able to operate effectively in a team environment. This internship position will start approximately May/June 2018 and will be located at our facility in Huntsville, AL.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills in engineering, engineering management, and project leadership.
Under supervision, the Intern will:
90% - Assist the Project Engineering teams with various tasks, to include database generation, test planning, test support, report generation, technical data analysis, and risk management. Become familiar with and use computer aided design software tools used to create 3D models. Perform basic engineering calculations to support concepts and preliminary designs.
10% - Assist Chief/Project Engineer with other tasks as assigned. Generate databases used for data reduction, trend analysis and metrics collection. Provide general support such as PowerPoint presentations and technical report generation. Hands-on mechanical experience highly desired. Experience with CAD software tools is a plus. Solid academic track record and demonstrated teamwork experience required.
Students must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering) and must have completed at least their sophomore year of study.
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Must demonstrate experience with effective communication and collaboration in a team environment.
