Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne is a premier aerospace and defense company specializing in missile and space propulsion. We are seeking an Associate Thermal Engineer to join our growing facility in Huntsville, Alabama. In this entry-level role, you will support thermal analysis of both liquid and solid propulsion systems and components. This position will provide ample opportunity to learn state of the art finite element modeling, thermal analysis skills using both commercial codes and Aerojet Rocketdyne tools from a group of highly experienced thermal analysts. In addition, the Associate Thermal Engineer will closely interface with design and manufacturing engineers to determine the integrity of propulsion hardware and system designs and to develop the analysis techniques and hot fire tests to solid propulsion system.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

70% - Under the supervision of senior engineering staff, perform thermal analysis of defense related propulsion using in-house or non-proprietary thermal ablation analysis tools or commercial software tools such as ANSYS or CHAR. Conduct finite element analyses using commercial codes such as ANSYS or Aerojet Rocketdyne owned proprietary tools on propulsion systems and components, constructed from metallic and non-metallic materials. Provide thermal design solutions and verification methods. Evaluate thermal integrity using classical methods.

 

20% - Design and support verification tests of propulsion systems and components. Develop test systems and strategies, specify instrumentation and analyze test results. Participate in team meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, peer reviews and problem solving meetings.

 

10% - Prepare analysis and test reports. Present analysis results.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or related discipline) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Some directly applicable technical experience desirable.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
